About

“Eddy Taatgen is an international photographer living in Groningen (Netherlands). He mostly works in venues and at festivals where musical performances take place. There he focuses on capturing the intensity, atmosphere and emotion of live music. Live moments don’t last, but when someone captures honest and pure moments from the right angle, at the right time, it creates a lasting memory and expression. While he truly loves americana music, he’s open to anything, as long as there is honousty and passion involved.

As a young boy Eddy already loved his camera. Starting off with analogue equipment, he created his own doka. There he could experiment and develop pictures by himself. When the digital camera emerged things changed rapidly. Taking lots of photo’s during concerts and live events, wasn’t so time-consuming anymore, and developments in style evolved in the same pace. Being creative means you’re always experimenting, developing and growing, but the quality of Eddy’s pictures is definitely there. He has a recognizable style; his portraits create a sense of balanced intimacy and aliveness, his sense of colour lies somewhere between modern and retro, and his compositions give you the sense that the depicted subjects and the thing they’re doing are spread all over the surface. They’re intimate, but at the same time wide open.”
